Holiday & New Year's Blog
"Looking Forward: Closing Out for the Holiday and Bringing In the New Year"
by Cheretta Robson, Fordham University - Rose Hill
Senior Associate Director, Career Services
Doctoral Student Fordham University, GSE ‘23
The past year has been a period of tremendous contemplation. Closing out 2021 for the holiday will allow us the opportunity for joy, celebration, and time spent with family and loved ones who are here with us. As we approach our work as professionals who have had to face difficult times. This year should allow us to look back on being grateful for what we have and for the positive moments that can be looked back on today. Despite the fact that we may be fatigued and looking forward to the summer holidays, we should be thankful for many things, including the great people who work with us and a wide group of people who offer their time and talents to help enhance our work at our Jesuit institutions.
I feel reflection needs to be an important focus on how we made it to December. Take time for yourself and make sure to think deeply. Close your eyes and imagine when you get out of bed, when you first get up, in the shower, or with your first cup of coffee every day for this reflection that you are here and you make a difference. Instead of rushing, allow yourself the opportunity to settle in your day and say, "I continue to create the new version of me every day." Even with us having to deal with the climate we were in this year due to COVID, you can also reflect on the memories of loved ones who played a special part in your life and know they have provided a positive spirit for you to continue your path for the new year to come.
For the Jesuit community, Christmas means Jesus, new beginnings, family, reflection, love, giving, and festivities. Christmas is a season of mystery, with displays of pleasure and love felt both externally and internally, regardless of how it is observed.
Continue to be motivated and reflective to create brighter days for 2022. Happy holidays, and best wishes for a prosperous new year ahead!

2022 Innovation Grants Application Process
Each year JASPA awards a limited number of grants for the purpose of applying current research to address pressing issues in Jesuit student affairs. While proposals for all projects/programs that address the goals and values of JASPA are welcome, special emphasis will be placed on those that are focused on efforts promoting diversity and inclusion. Up to $10,000 will be available to fund these initiatives this year.
Proposals will be accepted until all funding is dispersed; however, priority will be given to proposals received by Monday, April 4, 2022. Decisions will be made and communicated between May and June, and grants will be awarded in the new fiscal year.
Click here for more information about the process including the link to the online application.

Innovation Grants Committee
Each year several JASPA members volunteer to serve on the Innovation Grants Committee to review the applications that have been submitted for the current cycle. Serving on the Innovation Grants Committee is a terrific opportunity to learn more about the work going on at other institutions and it is a rewarding way to meet and engage with JASPA colleagues.
The Innovation Grants are designed to fund projects that support JASPA's goals and values with a special emphasis on diversity and inclusion. It is with this in mind that the reviewers will read through the applications and make recommendations for funding to the JASPA Executive Board. The time commitment includes two to three weeks to review the submissions and a meeting to discuss the reviews and agree on final recommendations. The review process takes place during April and May.
Please outreach to Michelle Bata at mbata@holycross.edu if you are interested in serving on the Innovation Grants Committee.
